I'm sorry you think it's "harsh" that I start my one year olds program promptly at 9:30, shut the door and don't admit latecomers. But let me tell you this:
All modesty aside. I run one of the best damned one year old programs in the area--possibly in the state. And right now I'm doing three sessions a week because of demand--I added extra sessions. It's hell on my voice, but people keep telling other people about me, and new people keep showing up--at that ungodly 9:30 time slot.
Unlike some of my colleagues, I actually LIKE working with toddlers. I don't freak out when they run around the room--providing they're not hurting anyone else. I've had moms tell me they've had to leave other local programs because their kids were doing things one year olds normally do. But here, they can have a good time and not worry that their kid isn't doing the "right" thing. Because at my program there is no right or wrong thing--every child can enjoy things at their own speed and on their own level.
And I hear one of the ladies doing a one year old program doesn't like the kids to get TOO near her. Whereas I had my favorite of a set of triplets snuggling in my lap last week, and sometimes there are 2 kids in my lap at once.
Yup, I'm such a harsh, mean lady and the kids know it.....
So whine about my rules all you like. But other people seem to find me well worth the bother.
And if that was you knocking on the door at 9:35, tough luck.
Fifteen other families managed to get their kids to the program on time--including the nannies, many of whom are notorious for their lack of time sense!
Show up on time. And if you're late, how about staying and READING A BOOK?
Or did you ever notice we're a library and not a damn Gymboree/Kindermusik site?
Sincerely yours,
The Library Lady
