Not a young child's book at all,but a beautifully written book about friendship, greed, self centeredness and love.
The best illustrations are by Ernest Shepherd. He was also the first (and only REAL!) illustrator of Winnie the Pooh!

Harriet Miers: Let the Republicans Add Fuel to Their Own Fire (After All, They're the Ones With All the Oil Companies Anyway)
We have a crazy lady who comes regularly into the library and likes to rant at the staff. I became the target of her latest complaint last week: a tirade about patrons bringing in large baby carriages that block the aisles of the library and endanger "elderly people like her".
The lady is not THAT elderly (in fact, I'd say she's 50 something, which by my lights isn't even NEAR being elderly) and the stroller she was complaining about was not a stroller, but a trim red wagon being used to transport twin toddler boys. But that's not the point of this discussion....
Rather than argue with her, I just smiled and said "Yes, ma'am." Nothing more.
That's what those of us on the left side of the political spectrum should do right now about Harriet Miers.
Let the right wing nutjobs fight this one out among themselves. Not only is it causing big cracks in party unity, but it is bringing out the worst in Georgie B himself!
Am I the only one who thought Shrub Boy sounded like a petulant child at his news conference yesterday? That whole bit about Miers WOULD go on the bench and she'd be great--we'd all see sounded just like a small child insisting HE is right and WE are wrong and that he WOULD have his way!
So stand back and watch the fun. Smile and nod your heads.
And Senators, get those aides of yours researching. Because if this does get as far as the hearings, you can have lots and lots of fun asking her about all those fine points of Constitutional law that working for Georgie B and the Texas Bar Association never taught Ms Harriet "Born Again" Miers.....................
