It's pronounced pretty much as you see it: far-SHTINK-en-er.
And if you see that middle syllable and pretend you are talking like "Mooch" in the comic strip "Mutts", you've pretty well got the meaning.
The word really comes to mind as we end February. And sorry, those of you who have Leap Day birthdays, but as far as I'm concerned, February had PLENTY of days this month--adding one more was just rubbing salt into my wounds.
Because, this February:
1)No Snow
2)SC messed up again, just as she did second quarter last year. But this time she did it in--of all subjects--English, the class in which she takes honors. Not by doing poorly, but by just NOT doing her work. Results? She got a D. She also lost her new (to her) laptop computer and her Nintendo DSL for a month, which evinced much sulking and pouting.
She also managed to make the Merit Roll by doing well in every other subject. It's pretty ironic when she does better in Math than in English...
3)No Snow
4)JR didn't do as well on her grades either. Well, those straight As last quarter were nice, but....
5)No Snow
6)Our downstairs air conditioner/heat pump which cools/warms our entire downstairs croaked and had to be replaced to the tune of $900 we really couldn't afford to spend.
7)No Snow
8) The library has been full of adult loonies. (See my various posts on this in February) And the parents and nannies downstairs haven't been much better.
9)No Snow
10)Because of waiting for the air conditioner guy, a school closure day for a wimpy storm, and various other stuff, I've missed ballet almost all month. And I hear we have two new students who are youngish and have plenty of dance experience, which means when I DO go back I am probably going to feel utterly demoralized, as well as being out of shape from not dancing for 2 weeks!
11) NO SNOW
12)Our microwave died, this time permanently (the Man had fixed it in the fall), I shattered the big glass shelf in the fridge while cleaning it, and the Man's new (to him) laptop stopped accessing the Internet, which means he's on MY computer. A lot.
And last, but not least:
13)NO SNOW!!!!!!!
Here's hoping for better things in March.
And in the meantime, abei gezunt......
