Oh, dear, now that my friend Beth has got a blog, she's sending me memes!
I've seen this one around before, but I've never done it:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest. [This was not MY instruction, it came with the taggy thing.]
6. Tag three people
This IS a cool book, but I didn't dig for it. It was in a pile of books sitting right next to me. They are things I have pulled from library donations because they may be valuable. Rather than put them in the library booksale and let some bookseller profit on our stuff (sorry, Guusje!) I sell such books on Amazon or Ebay so the profits go into things for my programs.
So, from 1922's The Burgess Bird Book for Children by noted children's writer Thornton W Burgess, with beautiful color pictures by Louis Agassiz Fuertes:
At the sight of that telltale feather all the birds knew that Weaver was right, and led by Scrapper the Kingbird they began a noisy search of the Old Orchard for the sly robber. But Sammy wasn't to be found, and they soon gave up the search, none daring to stay longer away from his own home lest something should happen there. Welcome and Mrs Robin continued to cry mournfully, but little Mr and Mrs Chebec bore their trouble almost silently.
I am not tagging anyone specifically--it's summer and I don't know who's around to play right now. But if you're in the mood, go for it--and pass it on!
