No, we are not going to any fabulous location for a well deserved vacation.
And for that matter, we're not taking the kids anywhere either!
In fact, I'm working several days next week while the Man does home duty and then we'll all be home the rest of the week. So it won't be restful. But there are things to make me rejoice:
1)Hopefully, I will get the Man to clean out his closet and give me lots of things to take to Salvation Army. And perhaps Operation Make Our Bedroom LOOK Like A Bedroom can really get rolling.
2)I will NOT have to get the girls ready and out the door for school for a week. This alone is enough to have me singing hosannas. It also means, that on the days when I am going to work, I can sleep a bit later!
3)We will not have to deal with the evening rush to get SC's homework done, get them both fed and in bed on time!
BEST OF ALL:NO SCHOOL LUNCHES TO DEAL WITH!!!
I am sure that most of the parents out there can hear me on that one!
SC likes school lunches. But she is largely a couch potato and while I will never, ever let her think she is on a diet, I am engaged in an effort to keep her at a healthy B.M.I, especially since she is heading rapidly into puberty. And school lunches are NOT the way to go in terms of calories, fat, etc, so she only can pick them twice a week. Some other days she eats packaged "lunchables" that are low-fat enough to be acceptable to me, and "tasty" enough to please her. And sandwich lunches, of course.
JR is the antithesis of SC. As Jean Kerr of Please Don't Eat the Daisies fame so aptly put it, I have a "stuffer" and a "picker". And you can easily guess who is who!
When she started school, JR wanted to eat school lunch every day, so for a while I let her. Now she does not want to eat school lunches at all. And trying to find a lunch we'll agree on is never an easy task.
Today's JR lunch is typical. One piece of string cheese, 4 crackers with jam, a package of fruit snacks and a thermos of chocolate milk. That's it.
She does get snack in kindergarten and at after care, so that's not all she'll eat all day. And she has been known to pack it in at dinner many an evening. But not always.
Never mind the Atkins Diets. Forget about the South Beach Diet.Try the JR diet. Follow it, and you too can be so skinny that when you cough, we can see all your ribs!
As I said, I'm not going on vacation. But a week away from school lunches? Heaven...
