The Cast Of Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 13 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 13. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story(!)

JR: Age 9  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

Want The Latest Mishegosse?

The Snow We Should Have Had Thursday

posted Sat, 01/22/05
We've had the sort of snow today that would have really messed up the coronation events, though it is not really that much of a snowstorm. We've had maybe 4 inches or so, enough to screw up this area, but nothing compared to what they're getting further to our north. New York City is getting pounded, but I know my parents always have plenty of supplies in the house as do my in-laws, so we're not worried--they'll be fine.

What really concerns me is tomorrow, because, as I stated, I am scheduled to be working, and so far, there is no indication we will be closed. The forecast predicts temperature HIGHS in the low 20s with wind chill factors hovering about 0 degrees F.  This would make it a miserable job to clear off the car, the roads will be a mess, and when I do get to work, there will be nowhere to park. And what for? So someone can come in and use the Internet?

While this may be a sanity saver, it is NOT a vital service and I am hoping that the powers that be recognize that. We shall see.

The girls were quite good today. During the afternoon both the Man and I wound up taking a nap with our big black boy cat, and SC and JR managed to get along peacefully and didn't come charging in to wake us up. Amazing..........
