Dear Mother Nature,
Thank you for the cold weather. I especially appreciate your making it CONSISTENTLY cold. It cuts down on the arguments with my younger daughter about why she has to wear that winter coat and her warm pants when she was going out in jeans and a sweatshirt the weekend before.
Truly, I LIKE the cold weather, Mama. I mean, I grew up in New York. I spent my college years in Albany,so having to bundle up in a heavy coat, hat and gloves is no big deal. I appreciate the clean, fresh air with a minimum of pollens in it. I love snuggling under my fleecy LL Bean blanket at night--it would make me feel cozy even if I didn't have a spouse and 2 large furry cats doing their best to keep me warm on 20 degree nights!
So I'm happy, Mother Nature, dear, except for one teeny tiny thing.
Or really, a whole LOT of teeny tiny things. Teeny tiny white flakes.
SNOW!
We've got the cold, so how about it? I mean, the little dusting last night and the one a week or two ago were nice. The kids got a 2 hour delay from school, I got to miss a program this morning, and I was able to do snow programs last week knowing that the littles actually KNEW what snow looks like.
But these little snow squals, and the snow showers are not what we want around here. We want REAL snow!
Just a nice 6-8 inch storm would be fine. Heck, 3-5 inches would be enough to close schools and entertain me by watching the bread-milk-toilet paper panickers filling up the SUVs they never DRIVE in the snow!
I'd just like one or two days to putter around the house, cuddle with the cats, bake bread and watch the snow fall. A day or two to watch my kids play in the snow and help us clean up the cars.
I know this might mean the Man might have snow duty. But the girls are not little any more. Hey, I was snowed in with them for most of a week when JR was a toddler AND I was recovering from a broken foot, and we managed just fine! Being home with them now would probably be FUN!
My pantry's fully stocked. The girls have all their snow clothes. The Man's got a car with all wheel drive if he has to go in to work.
Come on, Mother Nature. Stop hammering those poor folks in the MidWest and Upstate New York. Funnel some of that lake effect snow down this way. Send us a nice little nor'easter.
Let it snow!
Sincerely yours,
The Library Lady
