The Main Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 15 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 14. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story--she's a teenager(!)

JR: Age 10  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

    Want The Latest Mishegosse?

    Snow Dance

    posted Thu, 01/13/05

It is one week to the coronation   inaguration, and the only thing I can enjoy about it is that I get a day off from work.

Of course, the Man and the kids will too, so it's not much of a break, but at least I can sleep in--a bit.

Never mind that. Do you remember the scene in What's Opera, Doc?  in which Elmer Fudd is on the mountain top in his horned helmet, exhorting the gods of Valhalla to bring down their fury upon Bugs Bunny?

" Arise, Storm. North winds blow! South winds blow! Typhoons... Hurricanes... Earthquakes! SMOG! "

Well, I'm not wishing all that on the coronation  inauguration of George III  Bush.

    But how about a snowstorm?

As I've written elsewhere, all it takes is an inch or two to paralyze DC when it snows.

And the Man will be off, so even if they DID call him in for snow duty it would be about quadruple overtime. And the kids and I are already off.

And we haven't had any snow.

    So I am thinking snow.

Though one of my colleagues thinks that an icy rain would be even better.

So, to help us all think snow, I offer all my fellow travelers this link to a snow dance.

Hey, you can make my kids happy and upset the Republican's plans for tacky excess all at the same time.

    That's what I call, a win-win situation..............
