The Main Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 15 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 14. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story--she's a teenager(!)

JR: Age 10  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

    The Jennifer Count (Part One)

    posted Tue, 03/15/05

Explanation: I have a deep interest in baby names, because I deal with so many small children and often mull over the angst many of these children are going to suffer in later life because their parents gave them names that are not going to wear well with time.

In naming our own daughters, the Man and I gave consideration to the fact that they have a Spanish (Filipino) last name that generally gets mauled by non-Spanish speakers, and tried accordingly to give them names that were recognizable, easy to spell and easy for most people to pronounce. But (once more) I digress. On to the Jennifer Count!

JENNIFER is the #6 most common female name. 0.932% of females in the US are named JENNIFER. Around 1188300 US females are named JENNIFER!

Not only that, but Jennifer was the NUMBER ONE name for girls in the U.S. in the 80s. Which means that there must be hundreds, perhaps even THOUSANDS of Jennifers running around in the blogosphere.

(In fact, if you put the words "Jennifer" and "blog" into Google, you will get appoximately 1,970,000 hits. Not all of these are blogs by Jennifer by any means. But you get the idea of how vast Jenniferworld is.

Having run across several Jennifer blogs today, and thinking these thoughts, I now announce a new, occasional feature for The Library Lady Rants:

    THE JENNIFER BLOG COUNT!

This is not going to be a blog review thing--I will not comment on the blogs. Nor will I give their blog addresses. Merely I will list the blogs I come across on Blog Explosion and Blog Clicker, and keep a running count.

If you have any you know of, or if you are a Jennifer, please let me know. And by the way, if you are a Jennifer, I happen to think it's a lovely name!
