The Main Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 15 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 14. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story--she's a teenager(!)

JR: Age 10  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

    Want The Latest Mishegosse?

    They Danced

    posted Sat, 06/14/08

The ballet recital is over. It was a howling success.

The class moms did what they needed to do.My two assistants were marvels. Everyone was thrilled by how smoothly things ran. Those hours of work I put in on planning were not in vain.

JR, that little shit, did her routine flawlessly, having whined at the beginning of this whole thing that she couldn't learn it, and later flubbing it several times in rehearsals. She was amazing.

SC's outfit was not becoming and I know she was nervous and a little stiff in her solo. But she was wonderful in the group dances, and even in the solo, there are moments of my girl that haven't been there too much in recent days.

The videos are a mixed bag, because the Man had never used the new camera before, even though I TOLD him to do so repeatedly. Sigh. But I will be posting some of it, plus some pictures taken by a photographer who also may have more video to sell--and who I am sure will overcharge for it.

And you will NOT be seeing the finale, where I got up on the stage and helped lead some turns and jumps and curtseys. Though after 7 years of on and off classes--mostly on--and more than 12 pounds less on me these days, I don't think I looked half bad....

I've ordered 2 large pizzas for dinner and am hoping that for the first time in 3 days, I will be ready to go to sleep before 2 AM

We're done.  At least, until our "Gingerbread" recital in December.

Leaving you today with Martina McBride's video that expresses what I hope for my girls.
No matter what happens,  I hope they dance:
