The Main Characters

The Man (of the House): The love of my life. Severely addicted to books (that take up WAYYYY too much space in our house) and raw garlic. We've been married 15 years, but involved for many more. Long story....

Our Kids:
SC:  Age 14. Book addicted like both her parents. Serious, but with a nice sense of humor. Well mannered in the eyes of the world, but at home,it can be another story--she's a teenager(!)

JR: Age 10  I think of her as a Disney Princess's evil twin. All the eccentricity of both sides of the family wrapped up in a sweet little body and an adorable smile. People find her a darling. I do too, but I also find her exhausting!

The Beasts: Our 2 cats, both adopted from animal rescue. "Bart" is a big, solid black, total teddy bear of a cat. Our brown tabby queeen "Bella" is  in love with The Man, though she seems to like me too!

Me: Children's librarian by day, tired keeper of all of the above by night. When I think of my life, I think of Nicole Hollander (Sylvia)'s immortal line about things that are easier than combining a family and a career. Like swimming the Amazon covered in peanut butter....

    Why I Am Grouchy, Or It's NOT Just Because It's Monday

    1)I've had a rotten cold thing since Thursday and I am still feeling pretty icky.

    2)I've got to do 5 storyhours and a preschool visit this week even though I'm feeling icky.

    3)The Man decided to be helpful and de-frag my laptop, and the hard drive croaked. And it's MY toy, not his!

    I know he really knew how mad I was, because he called his brother right away to find out what we needed to do to fix it!!

    4) My brother-in-law is sending a new hard drive, but I will be without my laptop for at least a week. And I  may not be able to get my files back, and I never did get around to printing all the pictures I took on Chincoteague last month.

    5) The consignment sale I sell my stuff at just e-mailed. They found a great spot for the sale, but they can only have it for a week. Not only does this mean that I have to rush to tag all my stuff, but they are not having ANY weekend hours for drop off, and I am going to have to slog out there through rush hour traffic after work next week.

    And having growled about all that, I will go and get my stuff together before the preschool arrives for story hour.

    Gonna be a loooooooooooooooong week..................................................
